Stars President Burger
On my way to see a friend, I was on the lookout for a hamburger place to have lunch. Nearing my destination and running out of time, I spotted Stars Drive-In. Perfect! A 50's style diner, it had an extensive menu. I didn't have time. Seeing a sign describing the President Burger, I pointed to it and said "I'll have one of those."
The good news: It was good. Real good. Two thin patties glued together with Parmesan cheese, plus lettuce, tomato, and a "home made" dressing. All this between two well toasted slices of sourdough bread. It's the kind of sandwich where you scrunch it all together and open your mouth wide so all that stuff can savored in one big bite. I favor these kind of full meal burgers, and the sourdough toast keeps the focus on the insides, not the wrapper.
The bad news: It was a lot. A whole lot. I was in a hurry and had intended on a quick bite. Instead I got something which deserved leisurely contemplation. I took three or four (okay, maybe five) big chomps of the burger, wolfed down a handful of underdone but nicely seasoned fries, and then it was time to head out the door, leaving too much behind on the plate. Doing that never makes me happy.
But it also means I'll be back. But this time I'll make sure I've set aside the proper amount of time. The President does deserve some respect, you know. About $6 for the burger and fries.
