Astronaut Cuts Hair for Charity

Astronaut Suni Williams is currently orbiting the Earth while aboard the International Space Station. Her NASA profile indicates she was reluctant to attend the Naval Academy because it meant she'd have to cut her long hair. But anxiety over attending school in New York was more powerful than short locks, so off to Annapolis she went.

But this week, while aboard the Discovery space shuttle, she willingly had her ponytail cut off by fellow astronaut Joan Higginbotham. She reportedly is going to donate the hair to charity so the it can be used to make a wig for medically ill patients.
